What level of Spanish do I need to join the program?
You need a B1 level in Spanish to join the program.
How do I pay for the program?
After you sign the agreement with IEC, please pay the $300 registration fee within 7 calendar days.
The second payment is due before you’re placed with a host family — once your profile has been uploaded to the sponsor’s system.
When should I apply for the program?
The Volunteer in Chile program runs year-round, but you need to submit your application at least 2 months before your desired start date.
Do I need health insurance?
Yes. The program sponsor can help arrange insurance.
How much will I earn?
Volunteering is unpaid.
Where will I live?
Volunteering is unpaid.
Can I choose the city where I’d like to do my internship?
Volunteers usually live with a host family or in volunteer housing.
How many hours per week will the volunteer project involve?
You can indicate your preferences, but the program sponsor can’t guarantee placement in the city you choose.
Can I participate without knowing Spanish?
About 20–30 hours per week.
Do I have to be a student to participate in a volunteer project?
No. Participants must have at least an intermediate level of Spanish.
How long does the volunteer project last?
No, we welcome anyone aged 18 and over to join our volunteer program. Many projects don’t require special skills or prior experience, but you should be able to adapt to a different culture and be ready to make a positive contribution.
