Teach in Thailand: Destination

Every year millions of tourists from around the world visit Thailand. Thailand is a country of endless variety, with miles of sandy beaches, a greenish-blue sea and warm waters, a mild climate, exotic natural landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and vibrant, colorful markets. It also draws visitors with its rich culture and its hospitable, open, and friendly people. Education is highly valued in Thailand, and teachers are held in high esteem and enjoy significant authority in Thai society. Knowledge of English is seen as a key to a successful career and higher-paying jobs. In recent years Thailand has been restructuring its education system to align more closely with Western models. As part of these reforms, teaching English in primary and secondary schools has received special attention. The Thai government has launched a project called the “English Program,” under which students study subjects such as math or art in English. These changes have created a demand for qualified English teachers.

I’m proud to have successfully completed the TEFL/TESOL course. The host organization gave me tremendous support — I couldn’t have managed without it. The course was quite intensive; there was a lot to do and learn in a short time. But it teaches a very effective method for teaching English. I also want to thank my teachers and classmates for four wonderful weeks of study.
