Camp in USA: Destination

There are around 10,000 children’s camps in the USA, hosting more than 7 million kids every year. That makes the USA a true leader in the global camp movement. Most camps are located outside of towns in scenic spots — in the woods, by a river or lake, or even by the ocean.

There are different types of camps in the USA: sports camps, scout camps, private camps, family camps, camps for children with disabilities, and religious camps. Some are day camps where kids attend from morning to evening, while others are residential and campers live there for the whole session. Kids come to camp to relax and have fun, so you’ll always find options for arts and crafts, sports, water activities, and more. Of course, the list of “activities” (activities) varies from camp to camp depending on its type, but the bottom line is the same: free time is active and rewarding.

Campers usually stay in wooden cabins. Counselors usually live in the same cabin with 8–12 children and 1–3 other program participants. Support Staff usually live in the same cabin with 2–5 other participants. Almost all camps have computers and free internet access you can use in your free time.

This summer was the most amazing of my life! I worked in Wisconsin, then traveled across the country. I now have so many interesting friends. I’m truly happy! (I even flew a small plane and drove a speedboat!)

The camp was simply wonderful — the staff and the kids. Even though I worked as part of the support staff, I took part in lots of activities with the kids and the camp counselors. Most importantly — I now have so many great friends from around the world and so many wonderful memories!
