Au Pair in China: cultural exchange and work in China
The Au Pair in China program lets participants live with a Chinese host family for up to one year, caring for the family’s children, teaching them English, and doing light household duties. You’ll get free room and board, a stipend, and a Chinese language course. The program gives you the chance to use English every day, learn Chinese, experience the country’s culture, and gain valuable experience working with children in China.
Why join this program?
- Room and board with a host family (at least two meals a day)
- Flight to China: if the contract is for 12 months (ticket cost reimbursed after 6 months in China)
- Return flight from China to your home: if your contract is for 6 or 12 months (upon successful completion of the program)

Requirements
- Be aged 18-30
- Be unmarried and have no children
- Have English proficiency at or above B2 to communicate comfortably in daily life
- Love children and want to work with them
- Verified experience working with children is not required but is an advantage when being matched with a host family
- Be a non-smoker
- Be in good health
- Have completed secondary education; a higher degree in education or philology is a plus
- Have no criminal record
- Have a genuine desire to live with a Chinese host family and learn about the country’s traditions and culture
Programs run on fixed dates. Confirm the start date of your chosen program with your IEC coordinator. Program duration ranges from 1 week to 3 years, depending on the program you choose. Submit your documents 4–6 months before the program start date.
